St Mary’s College, Kegalle, set a victory target of 197 in 25 overs, accepted the challenge boldly and threw caution to winds to reach their target with just three balls to spare to register their fifth outright victory when they registered a five wicket win over St Thomas’ College, Matale in their school’s under 19 cricket tournament match concluded at Matale yesterday.
This was Marians fourth outright in the tournament games.
The Marians scored at almost at eight runs per over in their run chase. Architects of their win were Christopher Denipitiya 52 not out (3 sixes, 4 fours, 42 balls), Malinda Gunaratne 47 (4 sixes, 1 four), Kevin Galdeniya 43 (8 fours, 24 balls).
For the Thomians S N Wijetunga made 81 with 6 sixes and 4 fours which helped them to declare at 243 for 8 and set a daunting task which the Marians achieved racing against the clock.
